Alena Schäferová
painters and costume designer

Born 22.04.1957 in Novy Jicin /Czech Republic/. Studies at High School of Applied Art in Uherske Hradiste 1972 - 1976, department of painting and plastic painting in publicity and architecture. Since 1981 she was employed in Czech Television, studio Ostrava as costume designer. She designed costumes for tens of TV films, stagings and fairy tales. In 1992 she established her own firm A.S. Alena Schäferova. She is continuing her close cooperation with Czech Television, theatres, The Conservatoire of Leos Janacek as well as with fashion firms.

At the present she devotes mainly to free creation in her art studio in Stramberk, interested in classical oil painting and drawing based on emphatic hand style. Figure compositions gained by masterful drawing, expressive strokes of brush and by colour are her domain. She is expressive of her feelings and thoughts by figures, their relations and stories. They are often inspired by the stories from theatre plays, fairy tales, operas or TV films, in which she worked as the costume designer. Alena Schäferova is a member of The Union of Visual Artists in Ostrava.
